MISSION

The Society for Neuroscience (SFN) is the world’s largest organization committed to advancing understanding of the brain and nervous system and was founded in 1969. SFN has over 160 global chapters around the world including 47 U.S. states.   Welcome to the website for the Mississippi Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience. As a local chapter for the national organization we seek to help educate about Neuroscience at the grassroots level, disseminate research ideas within our community and connect members amongst our diverse communities.

Our Mission is to:

Advance the understanding of the nervous system by bringing together scientists and clinicians of diverse backgrounds across Mississippi

Provide professional development opportunities and educational resources to neuroscientists at all stages of their careers, including undergraduates, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty.

Engage with primary education and the general public through seminars, workshops, and community events. Specific outreach events including Neuroscience Monday Seminars, Brain Awareness Week and the local Brain Bee.

The MS Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience is committed to furthering the study of the Neuro-related fields in our great State.  From middle school to high school, from baccalaureate to post-graduate, we aim to produce a pipeline of life-long learners in the field of Neuroscience. The MS Chapter of the Society of Neuroscience is a network of educators, faculty, students and staff studying areas connected directly or indirectly with Neuro-related fields.  Our goal is to disseminate the ongoing work in our laboratories, to expand knowledge about the brain and brain-related diseases and to work together to fill the gaps in our understanding of Neuroscience.

The MS Chapter of the Society of Neuroscience is actively working to increase collaboration among the MS SFN members in the State of Mississippi.  Our goal is to produce familiarity with the types of research and opportunities that exist in our state and to work better together for the good of our citizens.
